About the Conference
Learn about the historical mission, multidisciplinary tracks, and key leadership backing the Faculty of Life Sciences One Health Conference (August 4–6, 2026).
Our Mission & Purpose
The Inaugural Annual Conference of the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Lagos targets critical, peer-reviewed scientific discovery addressing the One Health agenda. Our theme is: "One Health: Preparing the Next Generation for a Changing World".
By analyzing the overlap of human veterinary networks, ecosystem management, and agricultural output safety, we seek to generate high-impact policy guides. Through this initiative, we prepare the upcoming wave of researchers, doctors, and conservationists with the interdisciplinary knowledge necessary to combat global climate shifts and disease spillovers.
Scientific Tracks & Sub-themes
Emerging & Re-emerging Infectious Diseases
Epidemiological surveillance, host-pathogen interactions, vector control, and response to novel disease outbreaks.
Non-Communicable Diseases: Monogenic & Complex Traits
Molecular genetics, heredity analysis, complex biological traits, and modern genomic screening methods.
Zoonotic Spillover in Wildlife–Livestock Contact Zones
Ecological interfaces, animal-to-human transmission barriers, wildlife preservation, and agricultural buffer zones.
Antimicrobial Resistance at Human–Animal–Environment Interface
Development of resistance profiles, ecological runoffs, veterinary stewardship, and community hygiene policies.
Conservation, Climate Change & Environmental Health
Ecosystem stability, carbon footprint modeling, biodiversity preservation, and planetary health dynamics.
Forensics, Integrated Data Systems & Bio-surveillance
Molecular forensics, integrated data models, bio-surveillance platforms, and security networks.
Drug Discovery & Design
Phyto-medicine, pharmaceutical biochemistry, molecular docking, and drug design frameworks.
Food Security, Biosecurity & Safety
Sustainable agriculture, biosecurity barriers, food preservation pathways, and nutritional health safety.
Our Story
The story of the Faculty of Life Sciences is one of growth, adaptation, and an unwavering commitment to scientific discovery. For over six decades, the biological sciences thrived within the Faculty of Science — a cornerstone of the University of Lagos since its early years.
In 2024, recognizing rapid global advances in biotechnology, environmental health, and molecular research, the University took a visionary step. To ensure more focused academic leadership and foster specialized research clusters, the Faculty of Science was restructured, giving birth to the Faculty of Life Sciences, which officially began independent operations on August 1, 2025.
Led by our pioneering Dean, Professor Ganiyu O. Oyetibo, the Faculty is built on the philosophy that science must be "evidence-based and real-life-applicable." We have transitioned into a streamlined, agile faculty that currently oversees 13 specialized programs across seven departments.

Welcome to Faculty of Life Sciences
It is a distinct honor to welcome you to the Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Lagos. Established in 2024 as a dynamic evolution of the former Faculty of Science, we officially began our journey on August 1, 2025, with a clear mandate: to redefine the boundaries of biological discovery.
Today, we are recognized as a hub for excellence—a place where cutting-edge research, transformative teaching, and impactful community service converge. We are committed to advancing understanding of life in all its complexity—from molecules to ecosystems—while preparing our students to become leaders who will shape the future of science and society.
Our mission is to provide transformative education, foster groundbreaking research, and apply biological knowledge responsibly to address global challenges in health, biodiversity, and sustainability.
"At the Faculty of Life Sciences, we aren't just studying life — guided by our values of integrity, inclusivity, innovation, and service, we strive to cultivate a vibrant academic community where curiosity and collaboration thrive."
I welcome all researchers, scientists, and students to this premier Annual Conference. May our exchange of ideas stimulate the breakthroughs required to sustain human and planetary health.
