Biography & Presentation Overview
Dr. Olutayo Israel Falodun was born to the family of Pa Ezekiel Adesuyi Falodun over five and a half decades ago in Ekiti State (formerly Ondo State). He obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology from Ekiti State University (formerly Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti), followed by both a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
During his doctoral studies, he was awarded the Postgraduate Teaching and Research Assistantship, serving the Department of Botany and Microbiology as a Teaching Assistant. He officially joined the faculty of the University of Ibadan as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Microbiology, was upgraded to Lecturer Grade II upon completing his Ph.D., and currently serves as a Reader within the department.
Dr. Falodun is the recipient of numerous academic honors, scholarships, and travel grants, including the Federal Government Postgraduate Scholarship, the African Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship, and the Keystone Symposia Travel Grant. An avid mentor, he has successfully supervised over 35 B.Sc. projects, 28 M.Sc. dissertations, one M.Phil. dissertation, and five Ph.D. theses, and continues to guide a robust cohort of undergraduate and postgraduate researchers.
With more than 60 academic publications to his credit—including book chapters and a patent—Dr. Falodun has published extensively in peer-reviewed local and international journals. He is an active member of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), the Nigerian Society for Microbial Ecology (NSME), the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID), the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM), the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC), and the Science Association of Nigeria (SAN). He regularly participates in global scientific convenings and served as a lead paper presenter at the Association of Industrial Microbiologists of Nigeria annual symposium.
